Minerva
is the Roman goddess of wisdom, commerce, and skill,
the inventor of music, and the patron of the arts and
trades. She created the foundations of civilization
and ruled over the areas of science, business and the
arts. As the goddess of wisdom, the owl is sacred to
her; hence, she is sometimes portrayed with an owl on
her shoulder. Minerva won a competition against Neptune,
the god of the sea, by creating the olive tree, which
was judged as the most useful gift to mortals. In roman
mythology, Minerva sprung from Jupiter's head fully
grown and fully armored. She was a warrior goddess,
but she only patronized defensive war and had no sympathy
for her brother Mars' savage love of violence and bloodshed.
Ovid called Minerva the "goddess of a thousand works."
At Minerva Associates, we've changed the mythology into
our philosophy and strive to emulate the goddess in
her wisdom, innovation, and appreciation of arts and
skills.
